Healthy Tid-bits

I was browsing on the net and found some interesting articles that I thought I would share with anyone who may be interested (as well as some of my rambling):

Bad Foods That Are Actually Great For Your Waist
Red Meat: Hallelujah! I love red meat!! But, do you know how hard it is to find "lean" red meat (over 94% - most packages that say lean are really in the 80% range!).

Ice Cream: WHAT??? OH MY. . . (Speech-less here! Really. . .About fell on the floor!)

Eggs: When I was in the height of my transformation, I was eating one egg and two egg whites daily. Yes, I have had my cholesterol checked and it is fine.

Pizza: Whew-hoo! Had some chicken pizza last night (OK, it was Lean Cuisine, but still!). I'm still looking for a pizza joint that will make whole wheat crust pizza!

Canadian Bacon: YUM! It tastes more like ham, but doesn't make my fingers swell!

Top Five Foods for Women
Cranberries: I've always known that cranberries help with urinary tract infections, but I have always fought a stomach ache after I consumed them. Now, this article mentions that they help fight stomach bugs - maybe my stomach ache was the battle vs. the bugs???

Walnuts: This is a tough one for me to eat with my braces. Once February hits though, I may have to put aside the fact that I would rather eat cashews or peanuts as the walnut is supposed to help reduce the risk of Parkinson's and Alzheimer's!

Beans: "Beans, Beans - the more you eat, the more you toot!" Sorry, couldn't resist! :)

Fish: Ever tried Orange Ruffey? Really meaty and filling!

Tomatoes: Hmmm. . .Tomatoes help with breast cancer? Never knew that one!

The Best New Foods
Breakfast:
Kashi GOLEAN Crunch! Honey Almond Flax Cereal This just sounds nasty! Has anyone tried it?
Kellogg's Smart Start Healthy Heart Bar, Cinnamon
The bar looks small and has 150 calories. I'll have to investigate further, but I think I'll stick with my current choice.
Lender's New York Style 100% Whole Wheat Bagels HMMM... I love a good bagel and I can do carbs for breakfast. Looks like I have some labels to read.
Amy's Kitchen Vegetarian Breakfast Patties No offense to my vegetarian friends out there - but I WANT MY MEAT!!!
My breakfast pick: Quaker Oats Weight Control Instant Oatmeal, Maple Syrup

Lunch:
LEAN CUISINE Chicken, Spinach & Mushrooms Panini Anyone that knows me knows why I will pass on this one!
Campbell's Select Healthy Request, Mexican Style Chicken Tortilla I have to agree that this brand is good - though this flavor isn't one of my faves!
Arnold Whole Grain Classics, Double Fiber I may be open to trying this one, but right now Aunt Millie's is the preferred brand of my home (thanks for the recommendation lexismoo!)
My lunch pick: LEAN CUISINE Chicken Club Panini

Snacks:
Kraft South Beach Diet, Caramel Peanut Crisp I haven't been too happy with South Beach bars, but to be fair, I haven't tried this particular one (and when is a meal replacement bar considered a snack?).
Kellogg's Crunchy Nut Sweet and Salty Granola Bar, Chocolatey Peanut This is now on my list to try metal-free.
Nabisco Wheat Thins Toasted Chips, MultiGrain Sounds good, but I don't think 12 chips at 120 calories is enough to be one of my mini-meals. :(
Kellogg's All-Bran Snack Bites, Brown Sugar Cinnamon WOW - I wanna try this one!! Gonna have to find a coupon for it though (ever notice that 'healthy' stuff is much more expensive than the alternative???). . .
Frito-Lay 100 Calorie Mini Bites Sun Chips, Harvest Cheddar Sun Chips in 100 Calorie bags (and not in the plain flavor?)? Sign me up!
Skinny Cow Chocolate Ice Cream Cone I am a skinny cow fan when the coupon gods are good to me! :)
Kashi TLC Cookies, Oatmeal Raisin Flax Here's that Kashi again. Any opinions? The raisins will knock this one off of my list though.
Vitalicious VitaMuffin Mix, Deep Chocolate Vital-what?
Stacy's Whole Wheat Bagel Chips I wanna see the label on this one!
My snack pick: Pure Protein protein bars, Chocolate Chip and Yoplait Fat Free Yogurt, White Chocolate Strawberry

Dinner:
Archer Farms Southwest Blend Wheat kernels, Corn, Kidney Beans and Pineapple? Who woulda thunk it!
Kashi All-Natural Entrees, Black Bean Mango There's that kashi thing again! Someone give me some info!
Kraft South Beach Diet, Chicken Basilico With Rotini Yep, I like this one. . .Be on the watch, Kroger has been known to put these are major sale and then I STOCK UP! :)
My dinner pick: I'll go with a "recipe" of mine: Canned chicken (white meat, 98% fat free) added to a Mix Veggies (broccoli/cauliflower usually) and Reduced Fat, Three Cheese Ranch Dressing (Sadillac gets credit for recommending the dressing!).

Beverages:
V8's V-Fusion, Peach Mango V8 makes something other than tomato stuff? Hmmm. . .
Stonyfield Farm Light Smoothie, Wild Berry I have a hard time using all of my mini-meal calories on a drink. I think I'll let someone else try this one!
Hint Water, Lime I think a sliced up lime and some tap water will work for me (and my wallet).
Tropicana Pure Premium Essentials, Fiber Now have this in Grapefruit Juice instead of OJ and I'd sign-up!
Naked Juice Gold Machine Superfood Smoothie Naked? Really? LOL (See comment about previous smoothie)
My beverage pick: Water (no, I'm not kidding)

Anyone else have some food suggestions that will help as many of us are in the transformation mode?

Namaste.

I buy the Kashi bars all the time. My favorite is Pumpkin Spice Flax. They're a bit on the hard side so I'd wait until the braces come off. LOL The Honey Almond bars are pretty good and they're chewy too. I grab these if I run out of time to eat a bowl of my All Bran cereal at home.
