#FridayFinds - Bourbon House Pizza (Florence, KY)

We had heard great things about Bourbon House Pizza (they have Chicago Style pizza), but we have yet to visit in person. This order was a carry-out and was still tasty despite the travel time home.

One of these days, we eat at the restaurant, but they are usually busy so I'm not sure when we will attempt.  :)

I remember that we got something "unique", but I can't remember what it
was and I don't see anything on the menu that looks familiar. :(

#FridayFinds - Torres Mexican Steakhouse (Union, KY)

Another Mexican restaurant in Union, KY that has really good food - Torres Mexican.

We haven't visited again though...

Why, you ask? 

Well, at the time we went, there was a sign that they needed to increase some of their prices due to the pandemic (this was in the first half of 2022).  I don't have an issue with that - BUT, it should be "all chicken dishes increased by $**" or something standard so people understand the prices as they are ordering.

That was not the case - some dishes went up a little and some went up a lot.  I heard that one dish increased by $10 and the customer wasn't told until they received the bill.

Soooo... If you like Mexican food (AND they have either gotten rid of the price increases or updated the menu or brought some consistency into it), this would be a good place for you to go. 

We have decided that it isn't for us - the pricing left a sour taste in my mouth.

#CraftyTuesday - Thankfulness and Goodbyes

A good friend up north would help me pin quilts (which was a godsend), so I made a quilt for her as a Thank You.  It also lined up to be a "Goodbye" as well as I had to have it delivered after we headed south...

Some of the material matched the quilt that I made for her grandson previously...

#FridayFinds - The Taco Queen (Union, KY)

There is a food truck pretty close to our place that has good Mexican food.

The offerings are not always consistent, but it is 95% yummy.

 

I don't remember what we got the first time we went - as we have gone many times since.

Usually, the burrito with chicken and chorizo and a chicken quesadia are our norms now.

#FridayFinds - Knotty Pine on the Bayou (Cold Springs, KY)

I'm going to continue the interruption of my restaurant catch up to spotlight my favorite.

I realized that I was going to Knotty Pine way before I started the #FridayFinds on this blog, so I never featured it. Fully transparent, I am still "catching up" as we went in July...

Time to fix that!

For my birthday, MBB scored reservations (yes, if you want to go and don't want to eat at 9pm - reservations are a must!) and it made for a great evening!  

We always get the same thing - I don't see that ever changing.  :)

This is the second location that I have been to for Knotty Pine on the Bayou.  The first was just up the road in a very old, slanted building.  This one is nicer, but the first one had way more character. :)

What I get isn't on the menu.  :)
I order the Steak Tips from the sampler and get it as a meal with gumbo and the boiled potatoes... I can't go to Knotty without getting their potatoes.

MBB didn't like it, but it was my birthday, and I knew exactly what I wanted!

It had been about six years since we had been to Knotty because of our move to Michigan. And the only restaurants in Southern Michigan / Toledo that claimed to be "Cajun" only had seafood - notice, no seafood in the pictures above.  It was great to visit an old friend again.

#FridayFinds - The Goetta Festival (Newport, KY)

Please excuse the interuption of my getting caught up on restaurants from the past to highlight a festival that has been on my bucket list for awhile...

We finally made it to the Goetta Festival.

I do love goetta - probably because I don't eat it very often.

If you don't have German roots or live in the Cincinnati area, you may not know what Goetta is.

I bring you - the festival's explanation:

No Goetta here - a cream puff that wasn't very memorable... Okay, it was - because I want to remember not to get it again.  We also got an Apple Streusel that I thought I got a picture of but can't seem to find - MBB liked that way better.)

I can't remember the exact name - but this was a breakfast sandwich with donuts (for the bread), goetta, egg, bacon and cheese. It was yummy and a heart attack in the making - four of us split it to not overload our hearts.

I got my fill of goetta and I can check it off of my list.

The heat and blaring music (don't get me wrong, I love concerts - but this volume was a little overboard when people are sitting there trying to eat) probably won't make it a repeat for me. :(

#FridayFinds - Schneider's Sweet Shop (Bellevue, KY)

Since we were in Bellevue trying out Fessler's (See 10/21/2022 post), we decided to head across the street and get dessert at Schneider's Sweet Shop.

Nice shop with a variety of treats - but of course, we had to get ice cream (we may have a problem).

I don't remember what flavors we got, but I do remember that we weren't disappointed.

#FridayFind - Fessler's (Bellevue, KY)

One thing we missed A LOT while we lived north was hoagies... 

Yep, pizza hoagies are a regional thing.  And Fessler's was mentioned on social media for having good hoagies...

While we were relocating and in temporary living, we weren't very far from this one, so we had to give it a go...

Cheese Fries w/ Bacon (not a repeat for us)

Goetta Hoagie (I love goetta - but the bread and toppings overwhelmed the goetta. I ended up taking it apart and eating everything separately so that I could taste the goetta.)

Steak Hoagy (MBB liked)

We probably won't be back - more because of the location (we no longer live in that area) than the food.  If we lived closer, we probably would make it one of our regular places to go.

#FridayFinds - Boomtown Biscuits & Whiskey (Union, KY)

I kept seeing a lot of people recommending this one on social media.

If you like biscuits (and probably whiskey - but I can't speak to that one), then this is the place for you.  Since my family is "supposed" to only have high fiber carbs, this isn't a great place for us.  The prices are also high, IMO, for the portion sizes.  

Flight of Gravy (I can't find it on the menu now) - We didn't get the Mushroom Gravy cause of my allergy... We both thought the Goetta Gravy was the best (and MBB isn't a big fan of Goetta). My biggest complaint - I believe we had to order the biscuits in addition to the gravy. :(

Oregon Trail (Overall, it was okay.  I remember thinking that the ingredients were a little unbalanced, but I can't remember how, and if that was fixed, it would be much better)

Overall, the food wasn't great, but it wasn't bad.  I don't believe that this will be a repeat for us despite driving by it many times in a week.

#FridayFinds - Blind Squirrel (Florence, KY)

We've had a lot of new restaurants to try after moving back to town...

Up today - Blind Squirrel! There was a group of us, so lots of food pictures (and I no memory of what we ate).  We have visited since - mostly with a group to celebrate occasions.  It's not a fav for us to go to just the two of us.
