Searching. . .

We have a big search going on in our house.

The kids and I hauled all of the Christmas containers upstairs yesterday.
I started to get out everything and realized that I have a missing part. . .
I can't find the pole that goes to my artificial Christmas Tree.

I also did a search on-line to see if I could buy a new pole.
Nada.

Wish us luck. . .
I really don't want to trash a good tree and buy another one.

Who Dey!

OB and I spent the day in Bengal gear.
Even though we were up early and we are both exhausted, it was a fun, packed full day!

Beastie at the first game of Corn Hole (we don't need to talk about the second).
Taught OB the basics of Euchre.
Spent the second half of the game sitting with Lucy (we don't need to talk about the first half).
Enjoyed a W (a W is a W. . .Doesn't matter what it looked like).

Tickets to a Bengals Game: $138
Food to Tailgate: $24
My share of parking: $10
Spending some quality time with my 12 year old: Priceless

Headache. . .

I'm not going to be very insightful tonight.
I got a headache on Friday - combination of little sleep, not the right pillow and some smell-good stuff not getting along with my nose.

Luckily, the headache is about gone. . .Hoping it goes bye bye while I go nighty night.

B.F.

I am kinda baffled.
I can't believe MBB and I went.
OK, let me rephrase that - I can't believe MBB went.

Yep, we went out on Black Friday.
MommyMarie left the house about 4:20am.
We left about 6:30am.

This is the third time that I have braved Black Friday.
To be even more baffling - we went out to buy a printer. . .For ourselves.

I did buy a few Christmas gifts. . .
In the midst of the printer, the crock pot, the blue tooth. . .

Yes, I know we're crazy. . .But there were no impulse buys.
These were all things that we had been looking for recently and saved $$ on them.

Gives new meaning to Black Friday.

Thankfulness

Thanksgiving.
A holiday of family.
A holiday of thanks.

A holiday to way over eat!

This year, I am thankful for many things. . .
. . .That we are healthy.
. . .That we have a nice home that is slowly beginning to look "like ours".
. . .That my will-power will with-stand all of the food!
. . .That Yeager-bomb no longer has the fleas that were driving him crazy.
. . .That we can afford to buy the expensive medicine that Yeager-bomb needed.
. . .That I am able to help raise two wonderful kids.
. . .That I get to partner with a wonderful man.
. . .That I have a family who accepts the path my life is taking. . .Hopefully.

MBB is thankful for. . .Good health of the kids.
MaBell is thankful for. . .That she got her life back on track.
OB is thankful for. . .The invention of money.

Don't look at me. . .I only typed what he said!

New Moon!

MaBell and I went to see New Moon today.
The guys were across the hall watching the new Ninja movie. . .
Perfect movie day for all of us. :)

We both liked it, even more than Twilight. A bigger production budget definitely helped.
It has me wanting to reread the books again, but we only have the last one in our personal library.
Do I see a trip to the library in my future?

Before the movie, I wasn't a part of "Team Edward" or "Team Jacob". Now. . .I'll stay with that.
After all, I've read all four books. . .They aren't going to change no matter what "Team" I pick. :)
BUT, and that's a big BUT, I found myself wanting to scream at Bella a few times.
I guess that was the result of Taylor Lautner doing such a great acting job.
Yes, I was impressed.

Another Remodeling Project

We have begun a new remodeling project. . .The Den.

This is one of the main rooms that we haven't done anything to since we moved in.
Since MBB may be working from home a day or two each week, we really need to get it done.
MaBell and I spent the weekend clearing the room out.
Anyone want to guess at how many books we moved? I
couldn't tell you - we lost count.

MBB is going to help me get the furniture moved sometime this week.
Then the fun begins.

We are looking for hard wood flooring (I am not clearing out the room a second time!).
I am going to spackle the dents, divets and holes in the wall.
Kinda handy that I already have the paint bought.
Depending on what the color of the floor is, we may have to sand and restain the bookshelf.

Kinda funny that we have lived in the house for just shy of two years and the last room we begin remodeling will be the first one completely done.

Wish us luck!

Tables Turned

This morning, it was a bit hard to get up and get going.
Usually, the kids and I are home while MBB has to get up and go to work.
Today, MBB gets to work from home while the kids and I had to follow a normal schedule.
He is still snoozing while I am getting caught up on my blogging.

Did I get up early?
Nope, got to sleep in 15 extra minutes because I was the only one showering.
I have some extra time because I only have to pack one lunch this morning.
Thankfully - I remembered to wake up the kids. . .Usually, that is MBB's job.

Busy Weekend. . .

. . .At our house!

It wasn't planned until we got up Saturday morning.
I'm not sure how it happened.
Thankfully, the Happiest Place on Earth has 6 month same as cash on big purchases.

We now have new gutters on the front of the house.
We now have new outlets in our half bath.
We now have electricity to the kitchen island.
We now have some more pictures on the walls.
We now have space for a Christmas Tree.
We now have an empty den.

Ouch, that last one means more work!
I'll be honest - the busy weekend means that Sunday's post is a bit late.
So much for being on top of blogging every day this month!

Uploading

I just recently realized that with the exception of two sport seasons and vacation pictures, I had not uploaded any pictures this year. No birthdays, no candids, no other sport seasons, nada.

So, I have been spending many hours uploading and uploading and uploading.
Then, I get to spend boo-koo money printing everything that I need to print for Christmas gifts.

After that, I'll worry about printing the pictures I need for MBB and my scrapbooks.

Thoughts. . .

I haven't written much about my current weight loss competition.
Primarily because it has been a huge struggle and I didn't want to focus on the negative.

Keep in mind that I have been in MULTIPLE competitions over the last 5 years.
It was a big tool during my ~80lb weight loss journey.
It has been a HUGE tool in not putting the 80lbs back on my smaller body.

What have I learned from this one?
What new experiences did I enjoy this time?

  • I didn't join a competition in time! Normally, 1% and I'm good. . .This time, I have to keep going after the competition to get back to my date weight. . .

  • My body has finally rebelled against the mini-roller coaster ride (I put on ~15lbs then join a competition to get rid of it). Looks like I need to figure out how to successfully maintain this time...

  • I have never paid a weekly penalty. . .Until now.

  • I have to exercise! (See previous note) Due to financial and time issues, I had to let go of my gym membership / trainer, hence the need for another competition.

  • Family memberships for college gyms are VERY affordable when one of the parents is a student at the college. We learned this about half way through the competition. . .

  • Family memberships for college gyms are not as affordable for alumni.
You guessed it - MBB is a Senior. . .

  • Some days MBB joins me to lift weights.
Some days he plays tennis and I play chase the tennis ball. . .

  • I have done more cardio this week than I can ever remember doing in the past.
I can do 6 miles on the elliptical in one night and still be able to walk to the car.

  • My feet do not like when I do lots of cardio in one week.

  • I do not like having a panic feeling the night before final weigh-in!

In the end - I made it!
It was hard. . .Who am I kidding? It was a HUGE struggle!
I did not cheat on my food intake! It has been forever since I had sweets!
Any drinks were worked into my calories for the day and I still had problems losing the weight.

New Traditions

MBB and I have decided that every other year we will spend Christmas Eve / Christmas Morning in my home town. The other years, we will wake up Christmas Morning in our beds and spend the day at home. The door is open for visitors, but we will not be moving the cars even 1 inch.

This is the first year that we will be waking up in our beds. . .
I am trying to create some new traditions to go with our holiday schedule.
The specific item in my head right now is Christmas Day Lunch.

I am completely open to suggestions as I am struggling with the menu right now. . .
It needs to be yummy, but easy. . .
I refuse to spend the morning cooking while everyone else is enjoying the holiday.
I also don't know if anyone will be "stopping by", I may need to have more than we will eat and then use any excess for C.O.R.N. (Clean Out Refrigerator Night).

Here is what I am thinking right now:
Honey Baked Ham in the crock-pot
Turkey Roll in the crock-pot (I can't eat ham, so this one is for me)
Broccoli rice casserole in the crock-pot
Baked beans (only if MaBell learns how and makes)
Mashed Potatoes (probably instant) and Gravy
Stuffing (Stouffers is quick and easy!)
Rolls

Thoughts?

Marathon. . .

. . .Baking that is!

One of my holiday traditions is to make cookies, LOTS of cookies and give them to various friends, family and co-workers for holiday gifts.
I think I'll be giving more of these types of gifts in my quest to make the holidays a bit more affordable this year.

As of result, I am reevaluating what I make so that the gifts may be more. . .
"Impressive?". . .Nope.
"Desirable?". . .That doesn't seem to fit either.
"Different?". . .Perhaps.
And to be honest, I have baked the same things for so many years that I am a bit burned out.

In the past, my baking list consisted of:
-Chocolate Chip Cookies
-White Chocolate Chip Cookies
-Peanut Butter Chip Cookies
-Toffee Cookies
-Chocolate Pudding Cookies
-Snicker doodles
-Spice Cake Cookies

Here is what I am mulling over in my head for this year:
-White Chocolate Chip Cookies. . .I'm thinking about putting nuts in them this year to stop my massive consumption.
-Toffee Cookies. . ..
-Pudding Cookies. . .Still debating what pudding flavor though.
-Spice Cake Cookies. . .These are a pain to make, but I get lots of compliments on them.
-Chocolate Chip Cookies. . .
-Peanut Butter Cookies. . .
-Multi-chip Cookies. . .Lots of different flavors in one cookie (chocolate, butterscotch, peanut butter)?
-Peppermint Bark. . .
-Mini pumpkin loaves. . .I'm still debating this one!
Suggestions anyone???

I am currently stockpiling coupons / ingredients so that I don't have to run to the grocery in the middle of my baking. That used to be no big deal with the grocery store so close, but I have a bit longer drive now. . .

Scrambling

I think that I have done pretty decent so far on the November blog.
It is more than half way through the month and I haven't "reached" too far - until today. :)

I admit that I am starting to run out of blog topics (can ya tell).
So, if you have something that you would like me to blog about - throw it at me!
As long as it doesn't hit my list of things I won't blog about - I'll give it a go.

MMQB

I started to do my normal "bits and pieces" from Monday Morning Quarterback. Not normally an issue because I link back to the article and since it appears that no matter what the Bengals do - Peter King barely gives them a glance, there is not a whole lot to share.

This week, WOW. Way too much to put here - it feels like I would be doing something wrong.
Since that is not something that I want to be guilty of. . .

Please click
Here to read "These are not your father's Bengals." and "Mike Zimmer's slowly coming back in Cincinnati, under the kind of pressure that would break most of us.". Yep, the ENTIRE page is about the Bengals. Yes, Peter King wrote it.

Here are the rest of the tid-bits. . .Still quite a bit!
The Fine Fifteen
5
. Cincinnati (7-2). Wow: 5-0 in the division, 5-0 in its past five road games, home-and-home wins over the AFC Championship Game contestants last season. This is a team I swung on and missed badly. The Bengals will be a tough out in the playoffs.

The Award Section
Special Teams Player of the Week
Bernard Scott, RB/KR, Cincinnati.
First, what can't be overlooked on Scott's weaving, sprinting, game-changing 96-yard kick return for touchdown -- the first kick return for a touchdown by a Bengals rookie in 33 years -- was the ridiculously weak tackle try by kicker Jeff Reed. What, Reed can get in fights off the field but can't contest a runner on the field?
That was the only touchdown of the game, but it wasn't Scott's only impact on the game. After Cedric Benson went down with a hip injury early, Scott, a rookie from Division II Abilene Christian who scored 73 college touchdowns for the Texas school, had to bang against the great Steelers run defense. He rushed 13 times for 33 yards and caught a swing pass from Carson Palmer for 21 yards. He also returned five kicks for a 41.5-yard average. Imagine someone named Bernard Scott accounting for 260 all-purpose yards in your biggest game of the year. Kudos to the Bengals oft-maligned scouting staff, headed by Jim Lippincott, for finding this diamond in the very deep rough.

Coach of the Week
Mike Zimmer
, defensive coordinator, Cincinnati.
In four victories this fall, Zimmer's Bengals have held the Steelers and Ravens to 20, 14, 7 and 12 points. As I wrote higher in this column, Zimmer has shot up the charts and is now a legitimate 2010 head-coaching candidate. "What he's done is teach our players the total game of football,'' Marvin Lewis said after the win over Pittsburgh. "He's been invaluable.''

Ten Things I Think I Think
5. I think this is what I didn't like about Week 10:
i. A 46-yard penalty is important in any game. In Cincinnati-Pittsburgh, it was vital, with Bengals safety Chinedum Ndukwe's senseless pass-interference on Mike Wallace, which set up a Jeff Reed field goal.

9. I think I blew the Chad Ochocinco fine story on NBC last week, and I'd like to explain myself. You all saw the funny bit about Ochocinco semi-waving a dollar bill at a game official last week, trying to get him in jest to change a call. Later that day, I spoke to someone with knowledge of NFL discipline, who said to me the thing didn't strike him as discipline-worthy. So I went on TV eight nights ago and said I didn't think Ocho would be fined for it. What my knowledgeable person didn't know was that after the game, in interviews with the media, Ochocinco used the word "bribe'' in discussing his use of the dollar bill. And when the combo platter of the dollar bill being shown to the official and the word "bribe'' came to the attention of the league office, it was deemed worthy of a $20,000 fine.
To me, the fine was totally out of whack. When you fine Tommie Harris $7,500 for slugging a player in a game and give another player three times that for a joke that went too far, I've got a problem with that. To me, it's political correctness run amok. But in any case, I was wrong, and I should take a journalistic hit for that. My fault.

Holidays

This year, I am attempting to change my focus on the holidays.

Instead of spending lots of money (just not happening), I am trying to make more gifts.
Instead of giving the gift of objects, I may give the gift of labor (which we, personally, need!).
Instead of focusing on the presents, I am trying to focus on the people and the time.

I would love for both Thanksgiving and Christmas to be more about loved-ones.
I would love for my house to be overflowing with family.
I would love to spend time making memories that my kids can talk about for years to come.

Another Success

OK, maybe I'm getting a little addicted to coupons, but it feels like I'm getting a lot for a little!

Here was last night's trip:

4 boxes of Heart Smart Bisquick
4 bags of Betty Crocker Peanut Butter cookies
2 jars of Mt. Olive dill pickle spears
3 tubs of Betty Crocker whipped icing
4 packets of StarKist tuna

1 bag of Chex Mix

Total value: $35.25
Total out of pocket: $10.91

I may be heading back to Meijer today for more bisquick.
That stuff never goes on sale, so to get it for $.99 / box is a steal!

Unfortunately, our printer just bit the dust so I can't print anymore coupons for the trip. :(

The 13th

Today is Friday the 13th.

I am not usually superstitious, but I have enough Friday the 13th stories to make anyone go "Hmmm"!

Let's see. . .One of those that popped into my head:
I think it was 1981 (or 1982?) and DadMarie's birthday fell on, you guessed it, Friday the 13th.
He got called out to work almost as soon as he got home so Plan A was eliminated pretty quick.
MommyMarie packed up the three kids and ran to the store to get a cake (I can't remember exactly when or how, but there was a messed up cake involved that I think eliminated Plan B).
DadMarie beat us home, but he was locked out of the apartment and got inventive. We walked through the front door just in time to hear noises coming from the bathroom. . .Yep, DadMarie was crawling through the bathroom window eliminated Plan C as all of the birthday stuff was no longer a surprise.
OK, so my memory is a bit foggy on the details, but I remember everyone saying over and over "It's Friday the 13th, what do you expect?"!

I've decided that this time, my Friday the 13th came a day early and happened yesterday...
I am not going to go into yesterday in detail, let's just say that it ended about the way it started.
Today IS going to go smoothly with no weirdness, craziness, badness, or any other -ness that the universe might think about throwing at me.
I am going to get lots of stuff done, find tons of deals, say a large amount of early "thanksgivings" for my large family that I am blessed to have and pretty much CHILL OUT.
Saturday will be my day to dive in and process Thursday's events.

Namaste.

Eventful Morning

There are certain times in life that make you stop and evaluate.
This morning was one of those times for me.
I was okay when it happened and I don't even think it will make the news.
Then it was over and I was just sitting at my desk. . .It kinda got to me and stayed with me all day.

I witnessed an accident on my way to work this morning.

Luckily, I kinda saw that things weren't right and I slowed down to put more distance between myself and the vehicle in front of me (guess I did learn something from that traffic school course) which kept me from making it a three-vehicle accident.
Between myself and another witness, we tried to help the driver before the police arrived.

The airbag had deployed.
Her engine was smoking and smelled horrible (luckily it was only from the antifreeze).
She was disoriented.
She tried to get out of her vehicle and just started crying when we wouldn't let her.
We couldn't contact her husband (not sure if the number she gave me was correct or not - see disoriented note above).

Luckily, someone was driving by as the 911 call went out. He had a walkie-talkie with the emergency station, but I'm not sure who he worked for - he didn't have a uniform and his truck was unmarked but they were equipped with those neat white flickering lights. The main thing - he was better trained and had a temporary adjustable neck brace in his truck that was put to use pretty quickly.

I gave the number for her husband's work to the police officer, though no name to go with it.
I gave my name and address to be listed as a witness.
I was free to leave.

I have no idea what her name was.
I have no idea if I helped.
I hope I gave her some comfort. . .Knowing that someone who didn't know her cared enough to stop.

I have no idea if she is okay.
And I think that is what bothers me the most.

Side note:
I was at work for about two hours and received a call that one of my co-workers had just been rear-ended.
What the. . .?

MMQB

I was a bit busy yesterday taking both kids to the doctor so my MMQB recap is a day delayed.
We have one with bronchitis and one with a severe viral cold. Time to medicate!

The Fine Fifteen
8. Cincinnati (6-2). OK, OK, Bengals fans. I give up. I acknowledge your greatness. Well, at least your very-goodness. The thing that impressed me watching Cincinnati's relatively easy victory: 44 total yards by the Ravens in the first half and just 215 in four quarters. "Not the same old Bengals,'' Chad Ochocinco told me after the game. Apparently not.

Ten Things I Think I Think
5. I think Marvin Lewis is going to get serious coach-of-the-year consideration from me. I remember seeing him in HBO's "Hard Knocks'' show rail at his team after a preseason loss to St. Louis, lost when the ninth-stringers were on the field. And I thought: This guy's making it very uncomfortable for his team to lose. And the Bengals have gone out and played like that.
8. I think the Cincinnati corners, Leon Hall and Johnathan Joseph, were the league's unsung heroes Sunday. Not saying the Ravens have Swann and Stallworth on the flanks, but Joe Flacco looked unsure in the pocket all day, and it's because Hall and Joseph pestered the Raven receivers all day.
9. I think the league won't do anything about Chad Ochocinco's little money gag, where he took out a dollar bill and waved it at an official during a disputed call. "You know, like, here's a dollar, change the call,'' the Ocho told me. "Just kidding. Just having fun.'' Wasn't sure the league would see it that way, and though I think league officials will look at the replay in New York today, I hear they won't be inclined to fine Ochocinco. Harmless fun. Well, I didn't think it was fun, but I'm old and boring.

Scrapbooking Success!

I didn't have a lot of time this weekend to Scrapbook and even less energy since I haven't been feeling well for the last week or so. Luckily, I had some "prep" work that I'd done here and there. . .
Guess what? Yep, I rocked!

I think I got about 20 pages done in about 3 hours on Saturday and 2 hours on Sunday!
I still have journaling to put on the pages, but the basic layout is done. It will also make for a lot less "stuff" to take with me to a scrapping day if I just need to take layouts and markers.

I think my next "prep" project is to organize layout designs by the number of pictures that are included on them. I know that sounds a little OCD, but I spent most of my time searching my piles of layouts (pulled from magazines) for the layouts that fit the number of pictures I had printed.
I also need to update/redo my stamp pages. I keep forgetting what stamps I have and keep going through the piles over and over again.

I'll let you know how that goes. . .In about a year or two, when I finally get it done!

Did I mention that I got about 20 pages done this weekend? :)

Keeper

I received this recipe from one of my co-workers.
Based on feedback, I changed it up a bit for my family and it has been deemed a "keeper".

Mexican Enchiladas
1lb Chicken Breasts, shredded (I cheat and buy the frozen diced)
1lb Lean Ground Beef
1 big can Enchilada Sauce (mild)
1 stick butter (or the 0 calorie Butter Spray)
3 cups Cheddar Cheese (I use 2%)
1 bag Dorito's, corn flavor

In a 9x12 casserole container, layer the meat half and half on the bottom.
Crumble chips on top of meat, drizzle/spray with butter.
Pour enchilada sauce and add any "extras" (we put black olives on MaBell's part).
Cook for 20 minutes at 350.
Add cheese (I put the cheese on before I bake so that it is crispy).
Bake for an additional 10 minutes.

We have some touch up to do and a lot of furniture / decorations to move / buy. . .

OB's 2nd Fashion Piece

OB has been sporting some new fashion accessories lately. . .
The first one already made its debut on the blog previously.

Now, we have graduated on to a second fashion accessory.
This one will be with us for awhile. He has to wear it in his shoe whenever he is out of the house for four weeks. After that, he will have to wear it during physical activity such as sports, exercising and horsing around.

Meet the sleeve!

November - Can I Do It?

I have been horrible about blogging lately, so I am going to join Carmen on her quest. . .
Hey, get off of the floor - no reason to laugh that hard!

Yes, I am going to try to blog every day in the month of November (starting the 2nd through Dec 1st since I didn't know about it yesterday).
AND. . .I'm going to try to make them more than one liners.
Starting tomorrow. :P

Namaste.
